Inventory Management Seminar
I wanted to let you know how useful the Pyxis Inventory Management Seminar has been. We have really been able to get a handle on our drug dispensing system using the information that was presented. We have been able to manage our refill process, and eliminate outdates and stock-outs. We have been able to streamline our system and better control our inventory and cut back on the manpower hours. The return on the small investment of the course has been phenomenal.
Using the strategies and reports you suggested has made a tremendous difference with our system. It was also very rewarding to share problems and solutions with other Pyxis users. I will look forward to future seminars for myself as well as my involved staff.
Thanks again,

CIISafe Advanced Topics Seminar
The day I was audited by the DEA began like any other day. While performing all my usual tasks, I was told, "You have a visitor." I stepped out from the narcotic vault and was introduced to Mr. X, a DEA Diversion Investigator.
He quickly began our conversation by asking questions about our narcotic management and controls. He asked:
- Show me how you monitor discrepancies.
- How do you know the resolution stated by the parties involved accurately describes the incident that transpired?
- Show me how you monitor and account for the CDARs (Controlled Drug Administration Record).
- Where is your documented proof for all alterations you make to the database?
- Take me through your process and show me examples for documenting waste.
- How do you know that when a narcotic is issued from stock that it isn't pilfered?
- Show me all your bulk issues from your wholesaler and direct vendors.
He wasn't interested in my explanation of procedure; he wanted to see documentation and proof. Although I was ready and able to immediately to describe our narcotic policies and procedures, I wasn't prepared to give concrete proof, reports and examples. I assumed that my explanations would be enough in this situation. I was wrong.
I found out that whole audit process was harder and more stressful than it had to be. Although the outcome of our DEA audit was positive, what could have been resolved in a day took much longer because I didn't have a clear idea of what was required in this situation and I didn't have the knowledge I now have as a result of attending the Pyxis CIISafe Advanced Topics Seminar.
Now I know how to be prepared in advance and anticipate the demands of a DEA diversion audit. The next time, the DEA Diversion Auditor will find me be well prepared and organized. Being perceived as prepared is important - If you appear unprepared and disorganized, the auditor will probe deeper.
What did I learn? All the ways in which I could have been prepared. All the information I needed for the audit could have extracted and verified by many of the reports I can easily generate on my Pyxis CIISafe System.
What's my advice to you? Take the Pyxis CIISafe Advanced Topics Seminar. Ask lots of questions and implement what you learn. It just may save you much time and aggravation. You just never know when a DEA Diversion Auditor will stop by to see you.

System Manager Class
Based on a recommendation from our Pyxis Sales Associate, we sent three people to San Diego for the Pyxis System Manager training class. Spending 3 days of focused learning in the Pyxis Training Center helped us to jump-start our implementation process.
Our instructor, Crystal Woodward, didn't just show us the steps to use MEDSTATION® SN, she really made the whole experience interesting, and provided us with specialized product knowledge and shortcuts that have made our lives easier.
Our Pyxis System Coordinator came away from the training class with the knowledge to build files and make decisions that resulted in a smooth implementation. Our Nursing System Manager learned the system intimately, providing us with a Nurse Champion as we move forward. As a Director of Pharmacy, I gained a better appreciation of the system and its ability to help us solve our medication management issues. In addition, we had many opportunities to network with other hospital groups.
It has now been a year since we completed the training class, and 9 months since we completed our implementation. Things continue to move smoothly. Our Pyxis Coordinator has built on the knowledge she gained through the training and continues to help us build a very positive system for the hospital.
Thanks, Pyxis and Crystal, for helping us succeed!
